Wo ist meine Medaille?

Floorball ist ein Sport, in dem nur die größten Superstars Geld verdienen. Das bedeutet, dass man in den meisten Fällen nicht für Geld spielt, man spielt aus Leidenschaft. Man spielt aus Spaß. Man spielt für Titel.

In Deutschland verdienen die Spieler kein Geld mit dem Spielen, also spielt man für genau diese anderen Dinge.

Und ja, trotzdem trainiert man mindestens so wie ein semiprofessioneller Athlet.

Das heißt: Von 7 Tagen in der Woche trainiert man an mindestens 5 oder 6. Und an manchen Tagen sogar zweimal, morgens und abends.

Und natürlich kommen dann auch noch die Spiele dazu.

In der Saison 2024/25 habe ich ausgerechnet, dass wir mit dem Herrenteam des UHC Sparkasse Weißenfels fast 11.000 km unterwegs waren.

Das ist sehr viel Zeit im Bus, nur um ein paar Floorballspiele zu bestreiten. Und das ist sehr viel Zeit fernab von Familie und Freunden.

Während einer Saison hat man vielleicht 3–4 floorballfreie Wochenenden und für manche Spieler sind auch die nicht frei, da sie mit ihren Nationalteams trainieren und sich auf die Weltmeisterschaft vorbereiten.

Und es ist nicht nur während der Saison so, dass man fast seine gesamte Freizeit in Floorball steckt, sondern auch in der kurzen Pause dazwischen.

Meistens gönnt man sich vielleicht eine 3–4-wöchige Pause nach der Saison und dann geht es wieder los: anstrengende physische Trainingseinheiten in der Sommerhitze, Floorball in stickigen Hallen und so weiter.

Nur, weil man diesen Sport liebt und gewinnen will.

Ich war 4 Jahre als Trainer in Weißenfels tätig und habe nach der Saison 2024/25 aufgehört. Es war eine großartige Zeit, wir haben in meiner Amtszeit 3-mal die Bundesliga und 3-mal den Pokal gewonnen.

Die Entscheidung war alles andere als einfach, denn ich habe die besten 4 Jahre meines Lebens beim UHC verbracht, aber es war dann Zeit für etwas Neues.

Eine meiner letzten Aufgaben als Cheftrainer des UHC Weißenfels war es, bei Floorball Deutschland (FD) zusätzliche Medaillen zu bestellen und es war nicht das erste Mal, dass ich das tun musste.

Jetzt fragt ihr euch vielleicht: Was bedeutet das, warum mehr Medaillen und wofür?

Nun, wir haben das Double gewonnen. Und sowohl in der Bundesliga als auch im Pokal gab es nicht genug Medaillen für unser Team, das bedeutete, dass einige Spieler und/oder Betreuer, die all ihre Freizeit und Wochenenden in Floorball investiert haben, ohne Bezahlung, nicht einmal das eine Ding bekamen, auf das wir die ganze Saison hingearbeitet haben: diese Goldmedaille um den Hals.

Also ja, aus diesem Grund habe ich mehr Medaillen bestellt.

Und ja, für diese zusätzlichen Medaillen muss man bezahlen (die Logik dahinter würde ich wirklich gerne verstehen, aber vielleicht liegt es nur an mir).

Ich habe den Spielern und Betreuern, die keine Medaille hatten, gesagt: Sie kommen noch eine, wir haben sie bestellt.

Bestellt wurden die Medaillen im April (Bundesliga) und im Mai (Pokal).

Und letzte Woche bekam ich eine Nachricht von Floorball Deutschland: Die Produktionskosten hätten sich verdoppelt und sie hätten die Medaillen für uns nicht bestellt.

Und um die Sache noch schlimmer zu machen, schlugen sie vor, dass wir sie im Frühjahr 2026 bekommen, also gleichzeitig mit den Siegern der Saison 2025/26.

Ja, du hast richtig gelesen: Einige unserer Spieler/Staff-Mitglieder würden die Medaillen der Saison 2024/25 zur gleichen Zeit bekommen wie die Meister der Saison 2025/26.

Klingt cool, oder?

Für mich, wenn man all den Einsatz bedenkt, den Spieler, Betreuer und Vereine bringen, um Floorball fast wie Profis betreiben zu können, ohne dafür bezahlt zu werden, ist das inakzeptabel.

Nein, entschuldige meine Wortwahl: Das ist kompletter Bullshit.

Etwas, das niemals passieren sollte

Denn die Wahrheit ist: Diese Goldmedaillen (nein, sie sind nicht wirklich Gold und sehen eher nach Bronze aus) haben für die Spieler eine enorme Bedeutung.

Für manche ist es das Symbol ihres ersten Bundesliga- oder Pokaltitels.

Für andere vielleicht eine Rekordmedaille, die sie zum erfolgreichsten Spieler in der deutschen Floorballgeschichte macht.

Also: Diese Dinge zählen. Und es sollte niemals die Verantwortung des Siegerteams sein, A) sicherzustellen, dass es genug Medaillen gibt, und B) auch noch dafür zu bezahlen.

Als ich die zusätzlichen Medaillen bei Floorball Deutschland bestellt hatte, wartete ich ziemlich lange auf eine Bestätigung.

Dann bekam ich schließlich eine E-Mail, in der stand, dass sie die zusätzlichen Medaillen bestellen würden. In derselben Nachricht hieß es aber auch, dass es keine Priorität gewesen sei, weshalb es so lange gedauert habe, die Bestellung zu bestätigen.

Ich weiß nicht, wie es euch geht, aber in meinen Augen sollte die Lieferung der Medaillen an die Sieger, der höchsten Spielklasse, eine Priorität sein, aber vielleicht sehe nur ich das so.

Nun, in den Wettbewerbsregeln von FD steht, dass es insgesamt 30 Medaillen für Spieler und Betreuer gibt.

Nebenbei bemerkt: Es scheint, dass die Verantwortlichen bei FD diese Regel selbst nicht so genau kannten, denn zunächst hieß es, es seien 30 für Spieler plus zusätzliche für Betreuer und später korrigierten sie es zu „30 insgesamt“.

Wie auch immer, selbst diese 30 haben wir für die Bundesliga nicht erhalten.

Also habe ich einen Vorschlag, um sicherzustellen, dass so etwas nie wieder passiert:

Was wäre, wenn Floorball Deutschland die Finalisten noch vor Beginn der Serie fragt, wie viele Medaillen sie benötigen?

Und wenn die Zeit nicht reicht, um sie rechtzeitig bereitstellen zu können, hätte ich noch eine bessere Idee: Fragt doch vor der Saison jedes Team, wie viele Medaillen sie im Falle eines Sieges benötigen würden.

Und falls ihr euch fragt: Nein, wir reden hier nicht von Medaillen im Wert von Hunderten oder Tausenden Euro. Floorball Deutschland sollte es sich leisten können, ein paar zusätzliche zu finanzieren.

Und wenn nicht, bin ich mir sicher, dass der Titelgewinner bereit wäre, für zusätzliche Medaillen zu bezahlen, aber eben so, dass sie rechtzeitig für alle Spieler und Betreuer da sind, wenn man den Titel gewinnt. Nicht ein Jahr später.

Am Ende könnte man damit sogar Geld sparen, weil nicht alle Teams 30 Spieler und Betreuer haben.

Es ist nicht so, dass Floorball Deutschland Insolvenz anmelden müsste, wenn ein paar mehr Medaillen bestellt würden.

Darum hoffe ich wirklich, dass ihr in Zukunft mit diesen peinlichen Aktionen aufhört und nicht versucht, 100–200 Euro an der denkbar schlechtesten Stelle einzusparen.

Denn kein Spieler und kein Betreuer sollte jemals wieder fragen müssen: Wo ist meine Medaille?

English version: Where Is My Medal? Floorball is a sport where only the biggest superstars earn money. That means that in most cases you don’t play for money, you play for passion. You play for fun. You play for titles. In Germany, players don’t earn money from playing, so it means that you play for those other things. And yes, you still practice at least like a semi-professional athlete. What it means is that out of the 7 days you have every week, you are practicing at least during 5 or 6 of them. And some days you might have two practices, like a morning practice and then an evening practice. And of course, on top of that, you have the games.

During the 2024/25 season, I have calculated that we traveled, with the UHC Sparkasse Weissenfels men's team, almost 11 000 km. That is a lot of time spent on a bus to just play some games of floorball. And that is a lot of time being away from your family and friends. During the season, you might have 3-4 floorball-free weekends, and for some players, they are not free as they then join their respective national teams in order to prepare and fight for positions at the World Championships. And it is not just during the season, when you invest almost all of your spare time on floorball, but also in between the seasons. Usually, you have maybe a 3-4 week break after the season and then you go again. Exhausting physical practices in hot weather, floorball in hot halls, and so on. Just because you love the sport and you want to win.

I worked for 4 years as a coach in Weissenfels, and left after the 2024/25 season. It was a glorious time as we ended up winning the Bundesliga 3 times and the Cup 3 times during my time there. And the decision wasn’t an easy one by any means because I spent the best 4 years of my life with UHC, but it was time for something new. One of the last things I did as the head coach of UHC Weissenfels was to order more medals from Floorball Deutschland (FD), and it was not the first time I had to do it.

Now, you might be wondering what it means, why more medals, and for what? So, we won the double. And both in the Bundesliga and in the Cup there were not enough medals for our team – meaning, some of the players and/or staff members who had used all of their free time and weekends for floorball, without getting paid, didn’t even get that one thing we were aiming for the whole season: getting that gold medal around your neck.

So, yes – I ordered more medals. And yes, you need to pay for those extra medals (I would love to know the logic behind it, but maybe it is just me). And I said to the players and staff members, who didn’t have their medals, that they will come: we have ordered them. So, ordering the extra medals happened in April (Bundesliga) and in May (Cup). And last week, I received a message from Floorball Deutschland stating that the production expenses have doubled and they have not ordered the medals for us. And to make the matter even worse, their suggestion was that we would get them in the spring of 2026 – meaning, at the same time when the champions for the 2025/26 season are crowned. Yes, you read it right: some of our players/staff members would get the medals from the 2024/25 season at the same time as the champions of the 2025/26 season. Sounds cool, right? To me, when you consider all the effort the players, the staff members and the clubs invest in order to be able to play floorball like semi-professionals, without actually getting paid, this is unacceptable. No, pardon my French: It is utter and complete bullshit. It is something that should never happen. Because here is the thing: those gold medals (no, they are not actually gold and look more like bronze) have a huge meaning for the players. For some, it can be the symbol of their first Bundesliga or Cup title. For others, maybe a record-breaking medal which makes you the most successful player in German floorball history. So, these things matter, and it should never be the winning team’s responsibility to A) Make sure there are enough of them and B) Pay for any of them.

When I ordered the additional medals from Floorball Deutschland, I waited for a confirmation from them for quite some time. Then I finally received an email stating that they would be ordering the additional medals. They also said in that same message that it had not been a priority, which is why it took them so long to confirm the order. I don’t know about you, but delivering medals to the champions of your biggest league should in my opinion be a priority but maybe it is just me. Now, FD’s competition rules say that there will be a total of 30 medals for players and for staff members.

Sidenote: It seems that the people working for FD didn’t know the rule all that well as they first said it was 30 medals for players plus additional medals for staff members, and then they corrected it by saying it is 30 in total. Nevertheless, we didn’t even get those 30 medals in total for the Bundesliga. So, I have a suggestion to make sure this happens never again: What if Floorball Deutschland asked the finalist teams, before the final series starts, how many medals they need? And if there is not enough time to have the medals ready, then I have an even better suggestion: How about you ask before the season from each team that if they end up winning, how many medals do they need. And in case you were wondering: No, we are not talking about medals that are worth hundreds or thousands of euros each, so Floorball Deutschland should be fine covering a few extra euros. And if they are not, I am sure the title winning club would be ready to pay for the additional ones to actually have them for everyone in the team when they win the title, not one year later.

Heck, they might even save some money, since not all teams have 30 players and staff members.

So, no – it is not like Floorball Deutschland would need to declare bankruptcy if they would have to order a few more than they do now. So, I truly hope that in the future you stop these embarrassing acts and don’t try to save 100–200 euros in the worst possible place to cut costs. Because no player nor staff member should ever again have to ask: Where is my medal?
